Each of these contains a rich diversity of routes, postage rates, postmarks, cachets etc, and of course the people behind it.
One thing that clearly stood out was that while there is a fair amount of documentation on the pre-WWII era, and the war years, there is scanty information on the post war era. This website will over time also attempt to fill this void. My aerophilatelic collection has been built thanks to the painstaking efforts of several experts, too many to name. However, some have played an outstanding role, and they are (in alphabetical order on last name) Markand Dave, Ramavtar Jain, Madhukar Jinghan, Yogi Mehta and Ashish Talwar. Thanks also to Harsh Gupta for allowing me to use images of scarce material from his exquisite Rudraksha collection. Thanks are also due to my able assistants Prasad Chavan and Dharmdev Maurya for doing all the difficult work needed for an effort like this, and a very special thanks to Vivek Matthai, for his unstinted support in building my collection. A note on names and spellings of cities: Several cities in India have been re-named over the last few years. Notable examples are Mumbai from Bombay (1995), Chennai from Madras (1996) and Kolkata from Calcutta (2001). I have followed the convention of referring to these contemporaneously. So, for example, if there is an event that happened earlier than 1995, it will be referred to as having happened in Bombay, but if it happened in 1995 or later, it will be referred to as having occurred in Mumbai.
